2023 Year in Review from Sew'n Wild Oaks Quilting Blog

 Hello Everyone,

It's 23 degrees this morning at Wilder's Last Resort.  The snow that fell yesterday is now frozen solid.  All pathways and the driveway turned into an ice-skating rink overnight.  We will hunker down inside the cabin until all of the Flat-Landers check out of their Airbnb's and drive or skate their way out of the mountains.

We have to walk over to our woodpile which doesn't look big enough to get us through the season.  We have another woodpile closer to the cabin.

Usually, I greet the first snowfall with child-like anticipation.  This year ...

Bye Bye 2023, Hello 2024! from Sew Preeti Quilts

It is January 1, 2024. First day of the new year - one day to reflect and introspect before the onslaught of work and responsibilities.

A review post is always tricky. What do I include? What do I leave out? And how do I say it? Should it be just quilting? But my feelings are so entangled with the threads of my quilts. Can you really keep your work and thoughts in water-tight compartments?

Unable to separate my feelings from my work

I will try to focus on my quilts and if my feelings seep in so be it. Here are ...

Let's put a bow on it! from The Academic Quilter

Hello all, and welcome to my 2023 year-end roundup! This is, as always, inspired by Cheryl at Meadow Mist Designs. If you are new here, welcome! If you've been following along this year, many thanks. I'm extremely grateful that you've hung around through all the drama this year. It has been the best of times and the worst of times, in the sewing room and out. A health crisis, a family crisis, and a brand new roof that leaked all made this year extra challenging, but there was also a lot of happiness and some fun quilty ...

2023 - My quilting year in review from Wendy's Quilts and More

Well, it's almost the end of 2023 and it's time to look back at what I've achieved this year.

My biggest achievement this year was my 5 week trip to Europe.  I loved every moment of it, but it did mean that I didn't make as many quilts as usual.

That's OK because my goals for 2023 were to:

  • finish what I'd already started
  • use what I already had
I think I did quite well on both of those goals. Here's what I made in 2023.

2022 is a Wrap from Needle and Foot

It is New Year’s Eve today. Lots of people are looking back at their year and thinking forward to the new year. When I think of last year it makes me tired. We worked so hard to get our house ready for sale, listed and then sold. Planning the move was done by my husband but yikes, it was a lot of work! Then settling into the new house, getting things set up and figuring out life up here. It certainly wasn’t a year for loads of sewing, at least not in the first half of the year ...

2022 In Review from Sew Preeti Quilts

As I sat writing about the year 2022, I wondered - what did I say about 2020? Unexpected.
What did I say about 2021? It was a year marked by assault on democracy, our voting rights and our bodies.

What can I say about 2022? The most significant world event has to be the unprovoked attack on Ukraine.
The most significant events in the US would include anti-LGBTQ policies and violence, continuing gun violence, and the monumental decision to overturn the landmark ruling Roe v. Wade.

Sadly (or appropriately) I made a quilt inspired (or disgusted) by each of those events ...

2022 - My quilting year in review from Wendy's Quilts and More

It's the end of the year, so it's time for my end of year wrap up.  At the end of each year I like to look back on the goals I set myself at the start of the year.

Here's what I planned to work on in 2022:

1. Licorice Allsorts Block of the Month from Wendy Williams

I've finished all the embroidery, and pieced about 40% of the blocks.  These blocks are tricky! But I love it and am keen to finish this quilt in 2023.

2. Ruby Star

I've finished this quilt and ...

Year in Review – 2021 from Needle and Foot

It is the “Best of” season in the quilting community. Cheryl hosts this party each year and while I haven’t participated the last year or two, I thought it would be fun to do so this year. When I started to sketch this post out in my mind, I thought it would be a tough one. It felt like I had done very little sewing. But guess what? That isn’t exactly true! After going through my posts, I actually got quite a bit of sewing time in! Let’s take a look at the crazy year of 2021 ...

A different year, in a good way from The Academic Quilter

Hello all, and welcome to the end of 2021! I hope your holiday went great and you're ready to take a look back at the year that was along with me. It was a different kind of year, in a mostly good way. Certainly less trauma, along with much more fun, interspersed with bouts of bad pandemic news. But I got a vaccine (or three!) and was able to meet my granddaughter who was born during lockdown, and to see my parents, my kids, and several of my siblings and nieces and nephews. That alone makes 2021 a much ...

2020 Projects Completed from Quilted-Hearts

2020 was a year! Everyone has their own thoughts on how things have been and every state was impacted differently depending on their governors, some good, some bad. It was a year in more ways than one. On the positive side, I have accomplished loads of quilty, sewing, knitting, and crocheting projects. I also finally caught up on my binding which I was way behind on for a multitude of reasons.

 January
January started off slow. I only completed 4 snack mats, but I made progress on other projects while subbing for a friend full days and half days until ...

Happy New Year: Looking Ahead from A Quilting Life

Happy New Year: Looking Ahead featured by Top US Quilting Blog, A Quilting Life: image of fabric in basket

Hello, friends! It’s always kind of bittersweet to write the final blog post of the year: Normally there are lots of fond reflections on travel and gathering of which there was little this year. However, I’m ever an optimist and do feel blessed to have been surrounded by close family and to have had a […]

What a long, strange year it's been from The Academic Quilter

Hello everyone, and welcome to the end of 2020! I'm so happy to say that, aren't you? What a year. There's no reason to go through the litany of why I am so glad to see this miserable year come to a close, is there? I'm betting that many of you are feeling the same way. I was going to say "we made it!" but of course that isn't true for too many families. Instead, I'll just say that I'm grateful that my husband and I remained healthy this year, and my parents ...
